Platforms allow the player to cross pits or deep water by pushing against the edge of the platform.
When the player pushes against the edge of the platform it will move in the direction of the push if there are no obstacles in the its way. If the direction of the push is diagonal, then there also must be no obstacles in both orthogonal directions adjacent to the direction of the push.
For platforms over pit anything in the floor layer that's not a pit or a tile of that same platform is an obstacle. Similarly, for platforms over water anything that's not a tile of deep water is an obstacle. Additionally, water-dwelling creatures (Water skippers and their nests) are also considered obstacles for platforms over water. Due to this, the player's mobility is somewhat hindered when fighting water skippers on a single-tile platform in contrast to fighting roaches on regular floor.
- Big objects, such as Tarstuff, snakes, Rock giants and Gentryii will weigh down the platform and prevent it from moving in any direction.
- Briar, however, doesn't weigh down the platform.
