Fluff is the coalesced form of puffs, an extremely cold gas immune to most things.
Description[]
Fluff is a thick, noxious, semi-sentient gas, deadly to any living creature that comes in contact with it. Clouds of fluff are essentially inert, but impassible. However, fluff forced into chunks smaller than two tiles wide will break apart to form puffs, which are capable of movement and extremely aggressive.
Fluff was first encountered by the Rooted Empire in 6982 A.T. by 8th Excavator and his crew.[1] He speculated fluff was created by the Tar Administration Facility, since the organization was responsible for engineering many non-biological life forms.
Since fluff is commonly introduced to dungeons through vents placed in the floor, it's reasonable to assume fluff is considered legal enough by the Empire to be yet another tool employed by architects.
Behavior[]
- See the interactions page for a list of all interactions for this element.
- Fluff is always semi-transparent regardless of vision tokens, or the tarstuff alpha level in the settings.
- Fluff can be placed on top of every element from the room pieces and floor controls layers except for walls, broken walls, closed doors, master walls, and hold complete walls.
- Fluff must be at least two tiles wide in both directions to be stable. Unstable parts of a fluff blob will dissolve into puffs.
- A tile of fluff can be pushed apart with the flat edge of a weapon, burned by an active firetrap, or blown up with an explosion.
- If there is a fluff vent under a blob of fluff, the fluff will grow outward by one turn in each cardinal direction every 30 turns. If the fluff grows into a tile too small to be stable, it creates a puff in that tile.
- Fluff can't grow over anything it can't be placed on, except for briar, which it destroys with impunity. It also can't grow over tunnels, hot tiles, force arrows, or orthosquares.
- If fluff consumes briar over water or shallow water, it will not form ice or shallow ice. The briar simply vanishes.
- If fluff and briar try to grow into the same tile on the same turn, the fluff will win and block the briar.
- If fluff and tarstuff try to grow into the same tile, the tarstuff will win and block the fluff.
- Adders can eat through fluff, shrinking one tile in length per tile consumed. If a two-tile-long adder tries to eat fluff, it will destroy that tile but die in the process.
- If a mimic, decoy, or clone is placed with its weapon facing into a blob of fluff, and the double is wielding a caber, that tile of fluff will be destroyed.
- Fluff cannot be destroyed by dropping a bridge or platform out from under it. Platforms can slide under fluff without issue.
- Tunnels covered in fluff are considered blocked.
- When puffs move into tiles adjacent to a blob of fluff, if the existing fluff and the adjacent puffs could form a stable blob, then the puffs are incorporated into the fluff.
- Destroying all fluff is not a requirement for toggling tarstuff gates.
- Closing a door on fluff will destroy it.

It doesn't just kill you because it's some toxic gas, though. It's like it wants you dead. This little fluffy puff comes for you, despite any contrary airflow, and when it reaches you, your lungs fill up with ice and that's that." ~8th Excavator
